Celeste: Elysia
The Hidden
Location: Elysia takes up the northern part of Mai'on. It includes the mist-cloaked Alterre mountains which are very steep and impassable. Deep in the Alterre Mountains are the Elysian Fields; here the River Styx runs through from east to west, entering and leaving through large caves. The Hall of Decision is located at the west end of the fields, where the dead are judged before being escorted to the afterlife.
Weather: Mild all year in the fields. It doesn't rain but a thick fog will often cover the fields. Wind is common, flowing down from the mountains at great speed. The Alterre Mountains are a lesson in the extreme. The western and south-western borders are often drenched in rain or buried in snow. Elsewhere it is dry, with searing summers and freezing winters.
A modest population of Shadow Celestians live in the woods surrounding the fields. They are responsible for dead from Hazaard. They are dark, very dark brown to black hair, brown eyes, and honey colored skin. They are born with faint tattoos unique to each person that darken as they age. Shadow Celestians have taken vows of silence, they are not to speak near the dead or to anybody outside their clans. This isn't much of a problem, since they are telepathic.
Plants in the Alterre mountains are hardy. The mountains are scarce in nutrients, being mostly hard stone and exposed bedrock. Vegetation in the fields is mostly grass, growing two to three feet height and soaking up as much moisture from the frequent fog as it can. Flowers grow closer to the forest where pollinators can be found. Several small streams can be found throughout the forest, pouring from springs unseen and watering the trees.
The Maei Eye lies hidden and protected by the Shadow Celestians somewhere in the Elysian Fields. Some say that it is the Eye that judges the dead in the Hall of Decision, seeing and knowing all.
